Trading

A Futures Contract is an agreement between two parties to buy or sell a specified quantity of an underlying currency on a specified future date at a price agreed between them at the time of entering into the contract. The Exchange offers trading in currency futures and options contracts on following currency pairs: USD-INR, EUR-INR, GBP-INR and JPY-INR.

The Exchange launched currency futures trading platform in August 2008, when it offered trading facilities in USDINR contracts to market participants.

Products Specification

Initially, the Exchange launched USD-INR, EUR-INR, GBP-INR and JPY-INR futures. Currently, the Exchange also offers option contract having three (3) serial month contracts followed by three (3) quarterly contracts.

How it works

  • Trading in currency derivatives takes place on all trading days as notified by the Exchange, subject to holiday declarations.
  • Orders are entered through the Exchange trading system by members on behalf of their clients or for proprietary trades.
  • Currency futures and options contracts are cash settled in Indian Rupees as per the settlement price determined by the Exchange.
  • Settlement obligations are settled through the clearing and settlement mechanism of the clearing corporation.
  • Members are required to collect and deposit margins as per the margin framework applicable to the currency derivatives segment.
  • Position limits are applicable at client, member and market levels as prescribed by the Exchange and SEBI.
  • All trades are reported to the Exchange and clearing corporation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Members must ensure compliance with KYC, risk management and reporting requirements for clients trading in currency derivatives.
  • Dispute resolution and grievance redressal mechanisms of the Exchange are applicable to trades in this segment.
